Anguissola is known as one of Europe’s most acclaimed female painters of the Italian Renaissance. She skilfully circumvented the limitations of female training, which was focused on yielding good wives and mothers, to achieve fame in a field entirely dominated by men.

The promotional teaser for her first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, hosted by Rijksmuseum Twenthe, is inspired by Anguissola’s journey to fame.
